Description

The 911S represented the pinnacle of Porsches sportscar programme in the early 1970s, bettered only in performance terms by the 2.7RS. With 0-60mph coming up in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 144mph, the 2.4S was Porsches answer to the slower 246 Dino from Ferrari.

For the 1972 model year the oil tank was moved further forward to enhance the handling of the 911 and featured a distinctive oil flap on the right hand rear wing where the oil could be topped up. Unfortunately, errant petrol pump attendants often used this by mistake to fill the car with fuel, so this feature was dropped for 1973 making these `oil klapper` 911s very rare today.

This LHD 1972 911 2.4S was originally supplied to Italy and finished in Sepia Brown with black interior. The original specification is confirmed by a Porsche certificate of authenticity supplied with the car and apart from the desirable period Recaro seats now fitted, it is still the original specification.

Following a number of years in Italy, the car was purchased by a Dutch enthusiast and the documented history confirms it resided there until coming to the UK in 2001 where it was the subject of a comprehensive written report by marque specialist Andy Prill who confirmed that the car was largely still in very good original order with some recommendations for further improvement. These were carried out by another marque specialist Autostrasse in Essex and are documented in the history file.

In 2004 the car was offered for sale by another established specialist Gantspeed and there is an email in the history file also confirming they believed this to be an original and accident free example still in excellent condition. They also mentioned that the original speedo was showing 50,976kms when it was replaced by a new speedo that had been fitted when the car entered the UK in 2001 which was now showing 4,800 miles.
