2018 Supercar and Classics Auction Roundup

The strength of the supercar and classics investment market is demonstrated by the fact that every few months throughout any given year, there’s a super car and/or classic car auction somewhere in the world!

Auction houses already have auctions scheduled for 2019 of course, but here at we’re going to look back at auctions held in 2018.

We’re only sharing a selection of some of the top auction houses below.

Here’s a list of RM Sotheby’s Car Auctions for 2018, held around the world – and most of those will be repeated in 2019, as they are annual events, always hotly anticipated. You can see the results for each auction by following this link.

18-19 January 2018. Held at the Arizona Resort & Spa, in Phoenix, Arizona. Their summary: “RM Sotheby’s achieves $36.5 million (USD) with 88% of all lots sold in Arizona.

7 February 2018. Held at Place Vauban in Paris, France. Their summary: “Record-setting Bugatti supercars steal show at RM Sotheby’s €23.75 million Paris sale.

9 March 2018. Held at the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island, Florida. Their summary: “Million-dollar Marmon 16 and Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 steal the show at RM Sotheby’s 20th Amelia Island sale.”

6-7 April 2018. Held at Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Their summary: “Fresh-to-market Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster and Gullwing top RM Auction’s $191 Million (USD) Fort Lauderdale sale.

11-12 May 2018. Held at Auburn Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana, USA. Their summary:
“Single-owner Ford GT leads RM Auction’s $6 million Auburn Spring weekend.”

12 May 2018. Held at Grimaldi Forum, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Their summary: “RM Sotheby’s achieves €23.317,290 at biennial Monaco Auction during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique.”

23-24 June 2018. The Dingman Collection Sale, held in Hampton, New Hampshire. Their summary: “RM Auctions achieves $7 Million USD at Dingman Collection Sale.

24-25 August 2018. Held at Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, California US. Their summary, “RM Sotheby’s sells Ferrari 250 GTO for $48.4 million at record-setting $158 million Monterey sale.”

30 August – 2 September 2018. Auburn Fall, held at the Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana, US. Their summary: “From Mercedes-Benz to Dusenberg, collector cars of all kinds shine at RM Auction’s $21.7 million (USD) Auburn fall sale.”

5 September 2018. Held at the Battersea Evolution, London. Their summary, Ferrari Enzo highlights success across all categories at RM Sotheby’s London.

11-12 October 2018. Held at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. Their summary: “American rarities highlight RM Auction’s $11 million Hershey sale.”

27 October 2018. Held at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, US, was the Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction. Their summary: “$5.95 million 959 Paris-Dakar leads RM.”

8 December 2018. Held at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, US. Their summary: “$22M Ferrari 290 MM leads RM Sotheby’s Petersen.”

Coys offers classic cars such as Triumph Stags, BMWs, and Range Rovers. They also have sold at auction such gems as a 1971 Lamborghini Espada Series II, a 1963 Ford Thunderbird, a 1964 Jaguar E-type series 13.8 roadster, and a 1934 Alfa Romeo 6C

13 January 2018. Held at the Autosport Racing Car Show, Autosport 2018: an important COYS auction of Grand Prix, competition, touring and rally cars.

17 February, 2018: The London Classic Car Show, held at Excel (Exhibition Center London) in London.

24 March 2018, Techno Classica Essen, held in Essen, Germany.

24 April 2018. Spring Classics auction, held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster, London.

15 September 2018 Jaguar Heritage, Classics and Sports Cars at Kempton Park Race Course

11 December 2018, Annual Christmas Classic at Sandown Park Race Course.

The Jaguar Heritage Auction on 15 September featured more cars than Jaguars, but several Jaguar beauties were on offer including a 1962 Jaguar MK11 3.8 manual that sold for £50,600, a 1992 Jaguar XJS convertible which sold for £8,800, and a 1969 Jaguar E-type series 2 Roadster that sold for £47,080.


In addition to the supercars and classics available at these auctions, there is typically considerable automobilia on offer as well.

2019 promises to be an excellent year for the classic or supercar investor. Check regularly at for auction results.
